"I began to realise how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it full speed. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good."
Roald Dahl

"to go the whole hog": (idiomatic) to do something as entirely or completely as possible; to reserve or hold back nothing.

Why hedgehogs?
About a month after my eldest son was born, someone showed me a magazine article which suggested what the future could hold for a child born that year. The thing which notably stuck in my mind was the idea that by the time my baby was 20 years old, hedgehogs could well be extinct in the UK.

Throughout my initial training to share yoga with children, I held in my mind the things that are important to me for my own children in the future and how they come to build habits which are sustainable. Changing landscapes and the hedgehogs came back into my mind and so the 'Wholesome Hedgehog' became my representation of a motivation to equip future generations with valuable tools  to help them grow as confident, resilient and nourished individuals.

I would like my own children, and the young people I work with, to be able to manage the challenges they encounter with assurance and compassion... (and I'd also like them to recognise hedgehogs as a garden visitor, not just a prickly character in a book).

When I added yoga for teens and then adults to my offering, I started to doubt the relevance of the hedgehog. But I stand by the belief that we are in our optimal state to live with vitality when we nurture habits which are sustainable... and the hedgehog will always keep that in my mind.

I look forward to sharing yoga together,
Béa
